University of Rio Grande Art Exhibit

One of our member institutions, University of Rio Grande, will host a reception for its newest art exhibition at the Greer Museum on Wednesday, November 7. The exhibit features the work of Rio Grande faculty members: Jim Allen, Kevin Lyles (a 2013 EVAs judge), and Benjy Davies (a previous EVAs judge). The three artists will discuss their artwork at the reception and answer questions. The exhibit features a wide range of artistic styles and themes, including Allen's mixed media paintings, Davies's "Daily Drawing" prints, and two sculptures that Lyles and Davies collaborated on. Lyles has created sculptures from a walnut tree that fell on his property this summer during an intense thunderstorm, reconstructing the segments with aluminum fittings, creating a work entitled, "After the Storm." They believe that by showing faculty work at their home institution, students will be able to understand the consistency in creating and showing artwork, and how the process of creating is constant, whether you are a student or teacher.
